MLRO  

Malta-based online casino and sportsbook operator and forming part of one of the largest land based casino groups in Europe. 

For its online operations, Our client is now looking to expand its Legal and Compliance team with an experienced MLRO. The MLRO will be reporting directly to the Board on AML/CFT matters, while supporting the business it its efforts to grow sustainably and maintain regulatory compliance in the wider sense as a member of the Legal and Compliance team in parallel. It will be ensured at all times that the MLRO will have sufficient capacity and support to perform in both functions. Our partner, currently holds a Dutch license and Maltese Recognition Notice. Where necessary to meet the company’s licensing obligations in jurisdictions it operates in, the MLRO will be required to register as key person and/or hold/obtain relevant personal licenses. 

Main Responsibilities 

• Oversee and manage the company’s AML/CTF efforts in line with regulatory expectations and the company’s risk-based approach to ensure AML/CTF compliance 
• Work closely with the Payments and Fraud, Legal and Compliance, Responsible Gaming, Customer Service and other teams to ensure effective implementation of the companies AML/CTF controls 
• Provide regular reports and AML/CFT advice to management if and as required, including on advised risk mitigation measures/relevant changes in risk exposure 
• Consider any internal reports of unusual or suspicious activities/transactions, and file STRs/SARs with the relevant reporting bodies on time and as required. Act as the main contact between the business and relevant reporting and/or supervisory authorities on any matters concerning AML/CTF 
• Respond to relevant requests for information from competent authorities and provide support to relevant authorities to investigate suspicious activity as required 
• Stay abreast with all AML/CTF regulations affecting the company, monitor trends, perform regular risk assessments and take necessary action to safeguard the business from negative implications resulting from changes in legislation, regulation or risk 
• Perform AML/CTF Business Risk Assessments if and as required, at least annually, and driving the correct and effective implementation of controls and risk-mitigation measures including the company’s approach to conducting Customer and Supplier Risk Assessments. 
• Ensure proper, reliable and compliant record-keeping and that all AML/CTF documentation (including, risk assessments, policies and procedures, manuals, training materials etc.) is consistently kept up-to-date and reflective of applicable regulatory and license expectations
• Comply with all duties and responsibilities attached to the role of a MLRO by law 
• Support internal/external audits. 
• Provide and arrange for adequate and regular AML/CFT training for staff and management in liaison with HR and the Legal and Compliance team 

What we’re looking for: 

• You have at least 3 years’ previous experience as an MLRO in iGaming or a proven track record otherwise demonstrating the level of experience, qualification and leadership required for the role 
• A strong communicator. Excellent English written and verbal skills are a must, Dutch written and verbal skills will be considered a bonus. 
• You can demonstrate a high-level of integrity and either hold or are prepared and qualified to obtain any required personal approvals/licences to be registered as an MLRO in jurisdictions we operate in 
• You have extensive knowledge of international AML standards, relevant EU Directives and national AML/CTF legislation, regulations and relevant guidance and know how to interpret and apply these. Proven knowledge of Dutch AML/CTF laws and regulations will be considered a bonus. 
• You have been involved and responsible for handling all stages of internal/external reporting, including in providing relevant training to identify suspicious activities/transactions, how to prepare and file relevant reports and how to interact with relevant reporting bodies. 
• You have experience in managing and providing input to internal/external AML/CTF audits and inspections 
• You are used to working cross-functionally with multiple teams and are aware of the workings of an iGaming company 
• You have previously worked in Compliance or otherwise learned about non-AML/CTF specific compliance matters and are prepared to get involved and support the Legal and Compliance team if and as required. 
• You are assertive with the courage to push back when needed to prioritize the best interests of the business
